Checking the coolant level
& WARNING Danger of burns from hot
component parts in the engine compart‐
ment
Certain component parts in the engine com‐
partment may be very hot, e.g. the engine,
the radiator and parts of the exhaust system.
Let the engine cool down and only
#
touch the component parts described
below:
& WARNING Danger of burns when open‐
ing the bonnet
If you open the engine bonnet when the
engine has overheated or during a fire in the
engine compartment, you could come into
contact with hot gases or other escaping
operating fluids.
Before opening the bonnet, allow the
#
engine to cool down.
In the event of a fire in the engine com‐
#
partment, keep the engine bonnet
closed and call the fire service.
& WARNING Risk of scalding from hot
coolant
The engine cooling system is pressurised,
particularly when the engine is warm. If you
open the cap, you could be scalded by hot
coolant spraying out.
Let the engine cool down before open‐
#
ing the cap.
When opening the cap, wear protective
#
gloves and safety glasses.
Open the cap slowly to release pres‐
#
sure.

Park the vehicle on a level surface.

Check the coolant temperature display in the
#
instrument cluster.
The coolant temperature must be below
70 °C.
Slowly turn cap
1
anti-clockwise to relieve
#
overpressure.
