DESCRIPTION OF OPERATION
This description of operation describes the function of circuit boards and other components in
the equipment. It is divided into sections, numbered to correspond to the circuit board
numbers and divisions into function blocks.
13AP1 Control board
Circuit board identity
The control board has got a machine ID, a hardware ID and a unit type number.
•
The machine ID determines which motor type and wire feeder mechanism the board is
intended for.
•
The hardware ID shows design and type of circuit board.
•
The unit type is used for identification on the CAN bus.
For Feed 304 M12 and Feed 304 M13 the Machine ID = 46 from serial number
623-xxx-xxxx (due to change of motor).
Changes to the circuit board
There are several versions of the control board.
•
The first version was used for wire feeders with serial no. 238-xxx-xxxx. This board
can be configured for Feed 304 or Feed 484 by jumpers on the board.

The second and third versions must be configured when the board is produced. See
the spare parts list for the correct ordering number.
•
From the third version (circuit board print number 487165-003) the supply to the brake
circuit is changed, see "13AP1:9 Motor driving / braking", page 26.

13AP1:1 Power supply
The wire feed unit receives 42 V from the control power supply transformer in the welding
power source via connector 13XP1.
42 V AC is supplied to the welding torch trigger switch, the gas valve and the contactor. In
addition, terminals G01 and G02 supply 42 V to a Miggytrac or a Railtrac unit if this is used
together with the wire feed unit.
DC power supplies
Diodes D30 – D33 rectify the 42 V supply to 60 V. Capacitor C61 smooths the supply, which
is then used to power the wire feeder motor.
