10 Transmission Removal & Installation

Tuff Torq K-56 Models

WARNING
Before beginning any service work, turn the PTO
off,set the parking brake, turn the ignition switch
off, remove the key, disconnect the spark plug
wire, and disconnect the negative battery cable.
TUFF TORQ K-56 MODELS

General

Removal of the Tuff Torq K-56 transmission is accom-
plished by removing the drive belt, disconnecting the
transmission control and brake linkages, dropping the
carrier out of the frame, and separating the transmission
and carrier assembly. Installation is the reverse of this
process.
Carrier and Transmission Removal -
Tuff Torq K-56
DROP THE CARRIER AND
TRANSMISSION OUT OF FRAME
1. Block the front wheels and elevate the rear end. See
ELEVATING REAR END FOR SAFE SERVICE,
Section 6. Support the frame with jackstands and the
transmission with a hydraulic floor jack (see Figures 4
and 5).
2. Remove the rear wheels (see REAR WHEEL
INSTALLATION & REMOVAL, Section 6).
3. Loosen the idler assembly capscrew (A, Figure 2)
and pivot the belt guide (B) out of the way.
4. Remove the drive belt from the idler assembly.
5. Remove the taptite screw (B, Figure 3) from the right
side end of the transmission belt guide (A).
6. Loosen the capscrew (C) securing the left end of the
transmission belt guide (A). Pivot the belt guide
away from the transmission pulley.
7. Remove the drive belt from the transmission pulley
and pull it back through the frame, away from the car-
rier.
8. Disconnect the rear of the transmission control rod
(D, Figure 3) from the transmission control arm.
9. Release the parking brake.
10. Disconnect the rear brake rod guide (C, Figure 2)
from the carrier brake lever (E).
