Installation and Setup

Carriage

You should have already set up the Janome Quilt Maker Pro 5' Quilti ng Frame™. Refer to the frame manual
for detailed instructi ons about setti ng up the frame.
To install the carriage and machine on the frame
1. Place the carriage on the table rails, ensuring
that the carriage sti tch regulati on encoder faces
the back of the frame.
2. Place the machine on the carriage.
 CAUTION: The Quilt Maker Pro 16 is heavy.
Never att empt to lift it alone. Always use
two people when lift ing. Always lift from
the throat of the machine, not from the
handlebars or needle bar.
3. Plug the end of the single ribbon cable from
the machine sti tch regulator encoder connector
at the back of the machine into the sti tch
regulati on encoder on the carriage.
 NOTE: The 9 pin cable plugs into a a serial connector socket on the back of the machine (see item
30 on the previous page). The ribbon cable then runs to the machine encoder on the right rear
wheel of the machine. The Y connecti on plugs into the machine encoder. Lastly the single end of
the ribbon cable runs to the carriage encoder.
 IMPORTANT: If you ever need to remove the machine from the carriage, disconnect the ribbon
cable from the sti tch regulator at the back of the carriage. Failure to unplug the cable when
removing the machine from the carriage could result in damage to the cable, encoders, and
carriage.
 IMPORTANT: The connector is keyed to ensure correct alignment. Make sure the keyed porti on of
the cable connector aligns with the keyed porti on of the encoder connector. Do not force.
