Adjusting the recording
level manually (Manual
recording)
When you record, the sound level is
adjusted automatically. If necessary, you
can set the recording level manually (with
the Digital REC level control) during both
analog and digital recording.

While holding down X, press and
slide REC to the right.
The recorder stands by for recording.

Press the jog dial, turn the dial until
"RecVolume" flashes in the display,
and then press the dial again.

Turn the jog dial repeatedly until
"ManualREC" flashes in the display,
and then press the dial.
To switch back to the automatic
control, follow the procedure from
step 2 again, then turn the jog dial
until "Auto REC" flashes in the
display, and then press the dial.

Play the source.

While observing the level meter in the
display, adjust the recording level by
turning the jog dial.

Jog dial
Set the level so that the meter
segments light up between A and B.
If B lights up, reduce the input level.
Each level meter shows the following.
Upper — L channel input level
Lower — R channel input level
A
Recording does not start in this step.
If your source is an externally
connected component, be sure to cue
the source to the beginning of the
material to be recorded before you
start playback.

Press X again to start recording.
To switch back to automatic
level control
Select "Auto REC" in step.

You can adjust the recording level manually
even during recording.
Notes
• If you press x during recording operation, the
recorder will revert to automatic recording
level adjustment mode the next time you start
a recording operation.
• "RecVolume" cannot be selected in step 2
during synchro-recording. To set the recording
level manually during synchro-recording, do
the procedure below.
1 Select "SYNC OFF" in step 2 of "To start/
stop recording in sync with the source
player (Synchro-recording)" (page 32).
2 Do steps 1 to 5 of manual recording
procedure. Then do the procedure from
step 1, and select "SYNC ON" in step 2 of
of the synchro-recording procedure
(page 32).
Recording starts automatically whenever
the source sound is played.
