Installing and Removing a Shared Port Adapter

This chapter describes how to install or remove SPAs on the Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services
Router. This chapter contains the following sections:

Handling SPAs

Each SPA circuit board is mounted to a metal carrier and is sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD) damage.
Before you begin installation, read

Caution
Always handle the SPA by the carrier edges and handle; never touch the SPA components or connector pins.
(See the figure below.)
When a bay is not in use, a blank must fill the empty bay to allow the router or switch to conform to
electromagnetic interference (EMI) emissions requirements and to allow proper airflow across the installed
modules. If you plan to install a SPA in a bay that is not in use, you must first remove the blank.
