The oil mainly flows through the five lube oil filters (6) directly to the lubrication points in the engine and to
the main oil gallery (27).
The following components / assemblies are supplied directly:
• HP fuel pump (9)
• Vibration damper (16)
• Crankshaft support bearing, free end (17)
• Conrod bearing (19)
• Piston cooling spray nozzles (24)
The following components / assemblies are supplied from the main oil gallery (27):
• Crankshaft main bearings (18)
• Camshaft thrust bearings (28)
• Cylinder head (26)
• Camshaft bearings (23)
• Crankshaft support bearing, driving end (21)
• Crankshaft thrust bearings (20)
• Exhaust turbocharger bearings (1, 2)
The lube oil pump (12) is a gear pump. It is driven by the crankshaft via an idler gear. A breather valve (11)
protects the pump against excessive oil pressure.
The pressure limiting valve (15) provides oil-pressure control independent of engine speed.
Pressure-maintaining valves (25) supply the spray nozzles for piston cooling only after a minimum oil pres-
sure. They thus ensure lubrication of the engine at lower speeds.
