3. Rotate the hand grip to the desired position.
4. Release the hand grip lock (5). Make sure that the lock
engages again and that the hand grip is securely fixed
in place.

METHOD OF OPERATION

Perform the following checks before and during
operation:
• Always hold the hedge trimmer securely with one hand
on the front and one on the rear hand grip.
• Is the tool fully and correctly assembled?
Make sure that all nuts and bolts are tight.
See "Maintenance" for the bolts on the cutter
• Is the hedge trimmer in a good and safe condition?
• Are all of the safety functions operational?
• Is the fuel tank full?
• Is the cutter sharp and undamaged?
• Are the motor and silencer free of deposits, leaves or lu-
bricant?
• Is the hand grip clean and dry (no oil, grease or resin)?
• Is the working area free of obstacles which you might trip
over?
• Are you wearing the required protective equipment?
• Check the hedge you intend to trim, before starting work,
for electrical cables, fence wires or similar.
• Have you read and understood the instructions?
• Does the throttle trigger move freely and is the locking
knob in working order?
• Is the ON/OFF switch in working order?
• Does the cutter already remain stopped when the hedge
trimmer is idling?
• If the cutter moves at idling speeds, the speed must be
reduced (see "Setting the idling speed").
• Make sure that the gearbox is sufficiently well lubricated
(see under „Maintenance").

Rules of conduct for using the hedge trimmer

• Do not work alone. There should be someone within ear-
shot, in case of emergencies.
• Keep children, persons and animals out of your working
area (maintain a clearance of at least 15 m).
• Due to the risk of slipping, do not work on snow, ice or
other slippery surfaces.
• Make sure that your working area is safe and tidy. Remove
objects from the working area, which could be picked up
by the trimmer and flung outwards.
• Avoid assuming an abnormal stance. Maintain your bal-
ance at all times. Do not work with the upper body bent
forwards.
• Do not work in poor lighting conditions (fog, rain, snow-
drifts or at dusk/dawn).
• Before cutting, scare any animal out of the hedge, so that
they are not endangered.
• Only operate the hedge trimmer when you have secure
footing.

• Switch off the hedge trimmer when moving to a new
area.
• It is vital to remove foreign objects from the hedge
(wires), as they could damage the hedge trimmer's cutter.
• Keep hands and feet away from the cutter, when it is mov-
ing.
• Hold the hedge trimmer in such a way that you do not
inhale any exhaust gases. Do not work in enclosed spaces.
• Always hold the hedge trimmer securely with your left
hand on the front hand grip and your right on the rear
grip. Never use the trimmer one-handed.
• When you release the throttle trigger, the cutter continu-
ous to run for a short time (freewheeling effect).
• Start the cut with the cutter already running.
• Never touch the cutter with your hand during operation.
• Never work
- at arms' length
- on places which are difficult to reach
- bent too far forward
• Never use the hedge trimmer above shoulder height.
• Never touch wire fences or the ground while the cutter
is running.
• Switch off the motor and pull out the spark plug connec-
tor
- if the behaviour of the tool noticeable changes
- to remove cut material which is jammed in the tool
- to check the cutter, if it has come into contact with
stones, nails or other hard objects
- to rectify malfunctions
- when taking a break from work
- when leaving the hedge trimmer
• Do not place the hedge trimmer in dry grass or on com-
bustible objects, when it is hot from usage.
• Before starting work, make sure that:
- there are no persons or animals standing in the work-
ing area
- you are able to step back without encountering ob-
structions
- the area around your feet is cleared of all foreign ob-
jects, branches and undergrowth
- you have sure footing.
If persons with circulatory problems are subjected to
vibrations on a too regular basis, damage to the nerv-
ous system or blood vessels may occur.
• You can reduce vibrations by:
- using thick, warm work gloves.
- reducing the length of periods working (inserting multi-
ple long breaks).
See a doctor if you experience swelling of the fingers,
feel unwell, or have no sensation in your fingers.

WORKING WITH THE HEDGE TRIMMER

Hold the hedge trimmer with both hands, at a safe
distance from the body.
• The maximum cutting diameter is dependent upon the
type of wood, its age, and the dampness and hardness of
the wood.
