9. Safety devices

The machine is equipped with several
safety devices for safe operation and for
the prevention of improper use.
Risk of injury:
If a safety device is found to be
defective, the machine must not be
operated. Consult a specialist
dealer; VIKING recommends
VIKING specialist dealers.
9. Safety devices
The lawn mower is equipped with safety
devices, which prevent inadvertent contact
with the mowing blade and with ejected
clippings.
These include the housing, discharge flap,
grass catcher box and correctly-installed
handlebar.

9.2 Motorstop lever

The lawn mower is equipped with a
motorstop device.
The engine stops when the motorstop
lever (1) is released.
The engine is stopped and the blade
comes to a standstill within 3 seconds.

0. Notes on working with
the machine
A perfect, thick lawn is achieved by
– Mowing at low driving speeds.
– Mowing regularly and keeping the grass
short.
– Not cutting the lawn too short in hot, dry
conditions as it will be burnt by the sun
and become unsightly.
– Using a sharp mowing blade – mowing
blade should therefore be sharpened
regularly (specialist dealer).
– Changing the cutting direction regularly.

. Initial operation of the
machine

. Starting the engine

Avoid damage to the machine.
Do not start the engine in tall grass
or at the lowest cutting height. This
makes starting difficult.
Thanks to the fixed throttle setting,
the engine always operates at the
optimum working speed after
starting.
Start procedure when the engine is
cold.
MB 443, MB 443 T, MB 448 TX:
Press the primer (1) three times.
Press the motorstop lever (2) to the
handlebar and hold.
Slowly pull out the recoil starter rope (3)
to the point of compression resistance.
Then pull forcefully and quickly to arm's
length. Slowly return the recoil starter
rope (3) again so that it is rolled up
again.
Repeat the procedure until the engine
starts.
Start procedure when the engine is
warm:
Avoid damage to the machine.
The primer must no longer be
pressed when the engine is warm.
It should be remembered, however,
that the engine can cool down
rapidly in very cold weather.
