Static IP Configuration
In a static IP configuration, Ethernet ports 1
through 3 and the built-in WAP provide high-
speed Internet access with no user logins or
controls. Internet access is unrestricted. Port 4 is
reserved for an optional KVH service, such as
Global Static IP.
Global Static IP service allows you to set up a
network device with an IP address that can be
accessed directly from the Internet. It does not
receive an IP address from the ICM. If you
require Global Static IP Service, follow these
additional steps to configure the network.
IMPORTANT!
A static IP address should only be assigned to
a secure device, such as a firewall router.
a. Ask the customer to fill out the request form
at www.kvh.com/staticip. In addition, the
system must be activated for mini-VSAT
Broadband service, and it must remain online
until KVH configures the system over the air.
b. Connect the static IP device to "User
Ethernet" port 4 on the ICM (see Figure 68).
c. The customer will need to configure the
device's TCP/IP properties according to the
instructions KVH will provide in an email
upon fulfilling the static IP request.
d. Connect all other (non-static IP) computers
and/or network devices to "User Ethernet"
ports 1-3 and Wi-Fi, as required. Follow the
steps in "Standard Configuration" on
page 33.
