2. Safety Safety Notes Before operating the device, you must read, understand, and follow all instructions, dangers, warnings, cautions, and notes. 3. Introduction Thank you for choosing the FLIR AC Flexible Clamp meter that can measures up to 3000A AC rms. The CM57 is the 18” (45.7cm) clamp version and the CM55 is the 10” (25.4cm) clamp version, otherwise both meters are the same. These devices are professional CAT IV 600V CAT III 1000V instruments that offer Data Recording, Bluetooth®, Auto Power OFF, Data Hold, Display backlight, and high power Work Light features. 5. Operation Note: Before operating the device, please read and understand all Warning and Caution statements and follow all instructions and notes. 5.1 Powering the Meter The meter is powered by two (2) AAA 1.5V batteries (located in the compartment on the back of the meter). Press and hold the Power button for > 2 seconds to switch the device ON or OFF. 5.1.1 Auto Power OFF (APO) The meter switches OFF automatically after an approximately 10‐minute period of inactivity. Several seconds before the meter automatically switches OFF the meter beeps several times to alert the user. To disable the Auto Power OFF feature: With the meter power OFF, press and hold the Power and HOLD buttons for >2 seconds. The display shows ‘AoFF’ while it powers up. The APO feature is now disabled and the meter will not shut off automatically. Note that the next time the meter is powered up, the APO function will be re‐enabled and the user must repeat the APO disable instructions to disable this function. When Auto Power OFF is active, the APO icon appears on the display 5.1.2 Low Battery Indication When the displayed battery icon appears empty and flashing, or if the meter does not power up, the batteries must be replaced immediately. Refer to the battery replacement procedure in the maintenance section. Note that measurement accuracy is maintained even while low battery alerts are displayed. 5.2 Work Lights With the unit powered up, press the Work Light button to switch the high power Work Lights ON or OFF. Note that excessive use of the Work Lights will shorten battery life. 5.3 Data Hold Press the HOLD button with the meter ON to freeze the displayed reading. The HOLD icon (H) will appear along with the held reading. Press the HOLD button again to release the HOLD feature. 5.4 AC Current Measurements WARNING: Ensure that power to the device under test is OFF before starting this procedure. Switch power to the device under test ON only after the clamp has been safely attached to the device under test. CATUTION: Do not move fingers above the LCD at any time during a test. Switch the meter OFF and switch power to the device under test OFF. Turn the knurled clamp lock mechanism counter‐clockwise to release the flexible clamp. Fully enclose only one conductor of the device under test with the flexible clamp probe (see accompanying diagrams). Re‐secure the clamp lock mechanism after clamping around conductor. Do not attempt to measure current higher than the specified current limit. Switch the meter ON and then switch power to the device under test ON. Never move fingers above the display area when running a test. Read the current value in the display; ‘OL’ will display if the measured signal exceeds the range. The meter defaults to the Auto Range mode; the Auto Range icon is visible on the display. The meter will automatically select the appropriate range when in the Auto Range mode. To manually select the range, use the RANGE button to step through the available ranges (30.00 / 300.0 / 3000A). Press and hold the INRUSH button for > 2 seconds to access the Inrush Current mode. 2. The display will show the Inrush icon and the display digits will switch to all dashes. 3. The meter now simply waits for a current signal to exceed the threshold. 4. When ready, take a current measurement. The meter will capture the highest reading detected during a 100ms window. Note that the 100ms window does not open until the minimum triggering current is detected. 5. To exit the Inrush mode at any time, press any button. The Inrush icon will switch OFF. 5.5 Data Recording and Bluetooth® Data Transfer 5.5.1 Data Recording When prompted, this meter can store readings into its internal memory automatically for later transfer over Bluetooth® (real‐time data streaming over Bluetooth® is also possible as explained below). The maximum number of records that can be stored is 20,000 and the fixed sampling (recording) interval is 1 minute. Press the REC button >2 seconds to enter/exit the Data Record Mode. The display will show the Memory icon. Use the Start/Stop button to Start/Stop Recording. The Memory icon will flash when the meter is recording and will stop flashing when recording is stopped. The display digits will show the measured reading. Note that after one (1) start and stop cycle, stored data is erased when a new data recording session is started. To transfer all of the stored readings in one bulk data dump or to data stream in real‐ time over Bluetooth® please refer to the following sections. Note that Data Recording cannot be accessed while the meter is in the Inrush mode. 5.5.2 Meter Identification (ID) Number A unique numerical ID (01‐20) can be assigned to the meter so that, when multiple meters are used over Bluetooth®, each can be specifically addressed. With the meter OFF, press both the POWER and RANGE buttons simultaneously to access the ID number. The display will show ‘Idxx’. Use the RANGE button to increment the ID number. When the desired number is shown, press the button to save the ID number to memory. Power the meter down and then power back up. ® 5.5.3 Transferring Readings Using Bluetooth To transfer bulk logged readings from the meter’s internal memory to a Bluetooth® paired Bluetooth device please read the steps below. Note that the range is 32’ (10m) maximum. Press and hold the Bluetooth button until the Bluetooth icon appears flashing Press and hold the REC button until the Memory icon appears Press and hold the SEND button until the percent (%) symbol appears The data is now being transmitted. The percentage shown is the percentage of data transmitted. All data is transferred when 100% is shown. Press the SEND button at any time to cancel the transmission. RANGE and INRUSH modes are inactive during data transmission. To stream real‐time readings over Bluetooth®, simply press and hold the Bluetooth button until the Bluetooth icon appears. The readings are now transmitted over Bluetooth® as they are taken. 5.5.4 Bluetooth Communication with FLIR IR Cameras ® Some IR cameras from FLIR Systems support Bluetooth® communication and, to those cameras, streaming of measurement data from the meter is possible. The data is then merged into the result table in the IR image. Streaming measurement data is a convenient way to add important information to an IR image. For example, when identifying an overheated cable connection, you may want to know the current in that cable. Note that this meter is compatible with FLIR TOOLS software. The Bluetooth range is 32’ (10m) maximum. 5.5.5 Bluetooth® IR Camera Pairing Pair the IR camera with the instrument. Refer to the camera manual for information on how to pair it with Bluetooth® devices. Turn on the camera. Turn on the meter. Press and hold the button on the meter to enable Bluetooth® (the Bluetooth® icon will appear flashing on the meter’s display). Choose the variable to measure (current). Results from the meter will now automatically be displayed in the result table in the top left corner of the IR camera screen. -

6. Maintenance 6.1 Cleaning and Storage Clean the meter with a damp cloth and mild detergent; do not use abrasives or solvents. If the meter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the batteries and store them separately. 6.2 Battery Replacement CAUTION: Remove the meter from the conductor under test and switch the meter OFF before opening the battery compartment. With a Phillips screwdriver, remove the battery compartment screw on the back of the meter. Remove the battery compartment cover. Replace the 2 ‘AAA’ 1.5V batteries observing correct polarity. Re‐attach the battery compartment cover. Secure the compartment cover with the Phillips head screw. 6.2.1 Disposal of Electronic Waste As with most electronic products, this equipment must be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way, and in accordance with existing regulations for electronic waste. Warranties 9.1 FLIR Global Limited Lifetime Warranty A qualifying FLIR Test and Measurement product (the “Product”) purchased either directly from FLIR Commercial Systems Inc and affiliates (FLIR) or from an authorized FLIR distributor or reseller that Purchaser registers on‐line with FLIR is eligible for coverage under FLIR’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, subject to the terms and conditions in this document. Purchaser shall be responsible for the reasonable cost of FLIR’s evaluation, for the cost of any repairs or services authorized by Purchaser, and for the cost of repackaging and returning the Product to Purchaser. Any non‐warranty repair of a Product is warranted for one hundred eighty days (180) days from the date of return shipment by FLIR to be free from defects in materials and workmanship only, subject to all of the limitations, exclusions and disclaimers in this document. 9.2 FLIR Test and Measurement Limited 2 Year Warranty A qualifying FLIR Test and Measurement product (the “Product”) purchased either directly from FLIR Commercial Systems Inc and affiliates (FLIR) or from an authorized FLIR distributor or reseller that Purchaser registers on‐line with FLIR is eligible for coverage under FLIR’s Limited Warranty, subject to the terms and conditions in this document. This warranty only applies to purchases of Qualifying Products (see below) purchased and manufactured after April 1, 2013. - Page 21 Any Product that is repaired or replaced under warranty is covered under this Limited Warranty for one hundred eighty days (180) days from the date of return shipment by FLIR or for the remaining duration of the applicable Warranty Period, whichever is longer. 4. LIMITED WARRANTY. In accordance with the terms and conditions of this Limited Warranty, and except as excluded or disclaimed in this document, FLIR warrants, from the Purchase Date, that all fully registered Products will conform to FLIR’s published product specifications and be free from defects in materials and workmanship during the applicable Warranty Period. PURCHASER’S SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE REMEDY UNDER THIS WARRANTY, AT FLIR’S SOLE DISCRETION, IS THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS IN A MANNER, AND BY A SERVICE CENTER, AUTHORIZED BY FLIR. IF THIS REMEDY IS ADJUDICATED TO BE INSUFFICIENT, FLIR SHALL REFUND PURCHASER’S PAID PURCHASE PRICE AND HAVE NO OTHER OBLIGATION OR LIABILITY TO BUYER WHATSOEVER. 5. WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS AND DISCLAIMERS. FLIR MAKES NO OTHER WARRANTY OF ANY KIND WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCTS. ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE (EVEN IF PURCHASER HAS NOTIFIED FLIR OF ITS INTENDED USE FOR THE PRODUCTS), AND NON‐INFRINGEMENT ARE EXPRESSLY EXCLUDED FROM THIS AGREEMENT. THIS WARRANTY EXPRESSLY EXCLUDES ROUTINE PRODUCT MAINTENANCE, SOFTWARE UPDATES, AND REPLACEMENT OF FUSES, OR DISPOSABLE BATTERIES. FLIR FURTHER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ANY WARRANTY COVERAGE WHERE THE ALLEGED NONCONFORMITY IS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR, OTHER ALTERATION, MODIFICATION, REPAIR, ATTEMPTED REPAIR, IMPROPER USE, IMPROPER MAINTENANCE, NEGLECT, ABUSE, IMPROPER STORAGE, FAILURE TO FOLLOW ANY PRODUCT INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE (WHETHER CAUSED BY ACCIDENT OR OTHERWISE), OR ANY OTHER IMPROPER CARE OR HANDING OF THE PRODUCTS CAUSED BY ANYONE OTHER THAN FLIR OR FLIR’S EXPRESSLY AUTHORIZED DESIGNEE. THIS DOCUMENT CONTAINS THE ENTIRE WARRANTY AGREEMENT BETWEEN PURCHASER AND FLIR AND SUPERSEDES ALL PRIOR WARRANTY NEGOTIATIONS, AGREEMENTS, PROMISES AND UNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN PURCHASER AND FLIR. THIS WARRANTY MAY NOT BE ALTERED WITHOUT THE EXPRESS WRITTEN CONSENT OF FLIR. 6. WARRANTY RETURN, REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT. To be eligible for warranty repair or replacement, Purchaser must notify FLIR within thirty (30) days of discovering of any apparent defect in materials or workmanship. Before Purchaser may return a Product for warranty service or repair, Purchaser must first obtain a returned material authorization (RMA) number from FLIR. To obtain the RMA number Owner must provide an original proof of purchase. For additional information, to notify FLIR of an apparent defect in materials or workmanship, or to request an RMA number, visit http://www.flir.com. Purchaser is solely responsible for complying with all RMA instructions provided by FLIR including but not limited to adequately packaging the Product for shipment to FLIR and for all packaging and shipping costs. FLIR will pay for returning to Purchaser any Product that FLIR repairs or replaces under warranty. FLIR reserves the right to determine, in its sole discretion, whether a returned Product is covered under Warranty. If FLIR determines that any returned Product is not covered under Warranty or is otherwise excluded from Warranty coverage, FLIR may charge Purchaser a reasonable handling fee and return the Product to Purchaser, at Purchaser’s expense, or offer Purchaser the option of handling the Product as a non‐warranty return. 7. NON‐WARRANTY RETURN. Purchaser may request that FLIR evaluate and service or repair a Product not covered under warranty, which FLIR may agree to do in its sole discretion. Before Purchaser returns a Product for non‐warranty evaluation and repair, Purchaser must contact FLIR by visiting http://www.flir.com to request an evaluation and obtain an RMA.
