    This chapter provides basic instructions for installing hardware options in your server. These instructions are intended for users who are experienced with setting up IBM server hardware. If you need more detailed information, see the Option Installation Guide on the IBM xSeries Documentation CD.

    v Remove items from your shirt pocket (such as pens or pencils) that could fall into the server as you lean over it. v Take care to avoid dropping any metallic objects, such as paper clips, hair pins, or screws, into the server. Keep the microprocessor baffle for future use. b. Remove the protective tape covering the microprocessor socket, if present. Attention: Inserting the microprocessor in a locked connector might damage the pins and cause the microprocessor to fail.

    Your xSeries 450 server supports 512 MB, 1 GB, and 2 GB DIMMs, for a maximum of 40 GB of system memory. Go to the ServerProven list at http://www.ibm.com/pc/compat/ for a list of memory modules you can use with your server.

    Server power features When the server is connected to an ac power source but is not turned on, the operating system does not run, and all core logic except for the service processor is shut down; however, the server can respond to requests from the service processor, such as a remote request to turn on the server.

    Light Path Diagnostics feature overview If the system-error LED on the operator information panel is lit, one or more LEDs inside the server might be lit. Use the Light Path Diagnostics panel to identify the type of error that occurred. To acknowledge a system error but not take immediate action, press the REMIND button and place the Light Path Diagnostics feature in Remind mode.
