Troubleshooting – Motor and Electrical Problems
Trouble
Sander will not start.
Drum motor overloads.
Conveyor motor
oscillates.
Drum motor or conveyor
motor stalls.
Motor overload
protector trips or shop
wiring breaker trips.
Probable Cause
No incoming power.
Circuit fuse blown or breaker tripped.
Switch is malfunctioning.
Inadequate circuit.
Feed rate too fast or depth of cut too
large.
Motor not properly aligned.
Transfer rod collar is worn.
Drive roller bent.
Excessive depth of cut.
Improper conveyor belt tension.
Excessive load on sanding drum and
motor.
Too many tools on circuit.
Excessive length or inadequate size
extension cord.
Remedy
Check plug connections. Connect main
cord to power source, and motor cord into
control box receptacle.
Replace fuse or re-set breaker.
Replace switch.
Check electrical requirements.
Reduce feed rate and/or depth of cut.
Loosen housing bolts, run motor, retighten
bolts.
Replace transfer rod collar.
Replace drive roller.
Reduce depth of cut; use coarser grit;
reduce feed rate.
Adjust tension (see page 15).
Allow motor to cool and re-set overload
button.
Connect sander to a dedicated circuit.
Have a certified electrician correct any
shop wiring problem.
Use a shorter or heavier gauge extension
cord (see Table 1).
