13. System Charge Adjustment

13.1 Weigh-in Method
Weigh-in method can be used for the initial installation, or anytime a system charge needs to be replaced.
Weigh-in method can also be used when power is not available on job site or ambient temperature is not

1. Invalid for system with electric heaters or other third-party heaters whose capacity is 1.2 times
of heat pump nominal heating capacity.
For example:
3 Ton system equips a 15KW electric heater.
15/(3*3.516)=1.42>1.2
2. Only take line length over 25ft into consideration.
Every condensing unit pre-charged up to 25 feet of standard size interconnecting liquid line.
For new installation
Calculate additional charge for liquid line which is greater than 25 ft.
1. Total line length =
2. Standard line length =
3. A minus B =
4. Refrigerant multiplier =
5. Additional refrigerant amount(C*D) =
For system repairs
Calculate the total system charge amount.
1. Total line length =
2. Standard line length =
3. A minus B =
4. Refrigerant multiplier =
5. Additional refrigerant amount(C*D) =
6. Factory charge on nameplate =
