9. Troubleshooting – ST50 Snow Thrower
Problem
Engine Stops
Rotor will not
Turn
Snow Thrower
Operation is
Erratic
Snow Thrower
removes Snow
Unevenly
Belt Wears too
Fast or Breaks
prematurely
Probable Cause
1. Out of fuel
2. Fuel shut off valve - Closed
3. Mechanical Jam in the ST50
Impeller.
4. Polluted fuel supply.
5. Faulty Spark Plug
6. Kill Switch moved to OFF
Position.
1. Worn or Broken Drive Belt
2. Worn or Broken Impeller Drive
Chain
3. Inadequate Drive Belt Tension
1. Damaged Scraped Blade
2. Worn or Broken Drive Belt
3. Belt slips
1. Snow Thrower is un-level.
1. Adjust Belt Guide Pulleys
2. Adjust Belt Tension
3. Check Idler Alignment
Correction
1. Fill the fuel tank.
2. Open the fuel shut off valve.
3. Turn off the engine, remove key, wait for
all moving parts to stop. Check for and
remove obstruction and repair ST50 before
re-start.
4. Replace with clean fuel.
5. Clean or replace spark plug.
6. Move Kill switch to ON Position.
1. Replace the drive belt and tension
correctly
2. Re-Attach the Chain and/or Tension
Adequately
3. Tension Belt Correctly
1. Replace or reverse the Scraper Blade
2. Replace the Drive Belt
3. Correctly Tension Drive Belt
1. Level the Snow Thrower from Side to
Side.
1. Adjust Belt Guide Pulleys
2. Adjust Belt Tension
3. Check Idler Alignment
