This provides break-away protection
should the trailer break away from the tow
vehicle. Brakes engaged by a discon¬
nected supply line can be disengaged by
pushing and holding knob (Fig. 5) on brake
release valve for 10 seconds. Blocking or
chocking wheels is necessary when park¬
ing your trailer.
Do
not use trailer
brakes
as
parking brakes by disconnecting the
trailer vacuum line.
The self-adjusting disc brake calipers
(Fig. 6) should be inspected for wear any
time the wheels are removed for tire
rotation, wheel bearing maintenance, etc.
The lining will need replacement if there is
evidence of brake fluid leakage or if there
is less than Yu" between the liner and
liner's steel backing plate. See your Air-
stream dealer for all trailer braking service.
The optional Tru Track Sway Control
is a single package system which
momentarily applies the trailer brakes
when sway develops as the result of
such occurrences as rapid maneuvers to
avoid road obstacles, extreme air
disturbances and accidental travel on
and off the shoulder of the road. Because
of its design, it will not react to any
normal driving maneuver that is smoothly
performed. Ftowever, it will interpret any
maneuver that jerks the trailer as an
indication of sway and the restraint felt
from the short brake application will
normally alert the driver to steer with
greater care.
The green light on your brake controller
will illuminate each time the sway control
applies the brakes. It also illuminates
when the brakes are applied by the
driver in normal braking,
Frequent operation of the Sway Control
indicates that the car-trailer combination
is basically unstable and prone to
excessive sway. The problem should be
corrected; check for improper load
distribution in the trailer, an inadequate
hitch, insufficient or excessive tire
pressure, etc
Important: If at any time the brake
controller green light remains on or Sway
Control is continually applying trailer
brakes, disconnect Sway Control unit at
power source and correct problem.
Additional information on the Brake System
is available in the Airstream Service
Manual.
