vacuum connector, To couple, push knurled
coupling sleeve forward, firmly insert
trailer's vacuum hose fitting and pul! sleeve
back. Check for proper locking by firmly
pulling trailer's hose fitting.
Important:
A coupling plug must be
inserted in the tow vehicle's vacuum
connector when the trailer is
disconnected. Operating your engine
without the plug will result in a vacuum
leak. This may result in engine misfiring,
or inoperative vacuum boosted acces¬
sories (brakes, emissions, etc.) Extend¬
ed operation may cause engine damage.
An extra plug is supplied in the kit.
The
power brake actuator
(Fig. 3) located
in the trailer tongue (or under the front
lounge or optional corner table in some
models) supplies hydraulic pressure to
the disc brake calipers. The fluid level
in the booster's master cylinder
should be checked twice a year. If
necessary, add fluid to bring level to
within
Vd
inch of the top of the reservoir.
With disc brakes, fluid level can be
expected to fall as the brake pads wear.
Only brake fluid conforming to DOT 3
should be used. Use only fresh brake
fluid that has been in a tightly closed
container to avoid contamination from
foreign matter or moisture. Periodically
check actuator breather. Replace
element if dirty.
When the
trailer vacuum hose
(Fig. 4) is
disconnected from the tow vehicle, the
trailer brakes are automatically applied.
