Logic Analyzer application running on the Logic Analyzer
mainframe and 89600 VSA application running on a separate PC
This example guides you through the 89600 VSA and Logic Analyzer setups
required to display a North American Digital Cellular (NADC) signal acquired by
the Logic Analyzer. This example is valid when the Logic Analyzer application is
running in the Logic Analyzer mainframe and the VSA application is running on a
separate PC.
The connection from the PC to the Logic Analyzer mainframe is made with a LAN
cable. The PC and the Logic Analyzer mainframe can be connected to your
intranet, or you can connect a crossover LAN cable directly between the PC and
the Logic Analyzer mainframe.
The PC and the Logic Analyzer mainframe must both be members of the same
NOTE
domain or workgroup. If the PC and the Logic Analyzer are members of the same
workgroup, you must log on to both the PC and the Logic Analyzer using the same
user name. If the Logic Analyzer is a member of a workgroup, and uses Windows
XP Professional, make sure that it does not use simple file sharing. Click start >
My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View and clear Use simple file
sharing (Recommended) if currently selected.
Step 1. Locate the file demo nadc statedata.ala on the PC that has the 89600 Vector Signal
Analyzer application installed on it. The file is located at C:\Program
Files\Agilent\89600 VSA\LogicAnalyzer\demo nadc statedata.ala. The file demo
nadc statedata.ala is a configuration and data file of an NADC signal that was
installed with the 89601A software. You need to copy this file onto your Logic
Analyzer mainframe.
Step 2. Close the 89600 Vector Signal Analyzer application.
Step 3. Start the Logic Analyzer application on the Logic Analyzer mainframe.
Step 4. Click File > Open.
Step 5. When the Open dialog box appears, click the Look in drop down menu and browse
to the location where you copied the demo nadc statedata.ala file in step 1 and
open the file.
Step 6. If the Module Mapping dialog box appears, select Switch to 'Offline' mode and
load the configuration as-is.
If the dialog box does not appear, click File > Go Offline. Click Ok in the
Information dialog box.
The remaining steps are performed on the PC that has the 89600 Vector Signal

Analyzer application installed on it.
Step 7. Click Start > (All) Programs > Agilent 89600 VSA > Logic Analyzer > IO
Connections. When the Agilent 89600 I/O Connections dialog box appears, click
Add Instrument. When the Add Instrument dialog box appears, select Agilent
