Ethernet Overview
Ethernet is a LAN (Local Area Network) standard for communications between personal computers and print-
ers, and defines the network, including the communications data format, cables, and connectors. The Ethernet
standard was formulated by the IEEE802.3 Working Group for Ethernet. At present, the Working Group has
formulated the 10Base-5, 10Base-2, and 10Base-T standards. Other standards, such as 1000Base-T, are also
currently being studied. The following diagram shows the progress of standardization by the IEEE802.3 Work-
ing Group.
