1. Prepare your computer. See "Preparing your computer and removing the computer cover" on page 103.
2. Lay the computer on its side for easier access to the system board.
3. To get access to the system board, remove the following parts:
• "PCIe card" on page 158
• "Full-length PCIe card" on page 164
• "Memory module" on page 174
• "Flex-bay bracket" on page 125
• "Front fan assembly" on page 169
• "Rear fan assembly" on page 171
• "Power supply assembly" on page 156
• "Heat-sink-and-fan assembly" on page 203
Note: If you are only replacing the system board, set the heat-sink-and-fan assembly with
microprocessor aside. If the heat-sink-and-fan assembly or the microprocessor is also required for
replacement, see "Heat-sink-and-fan assembly" on page 203 or "Microprocessor" on page 207.
• "Coin-cell battery" on page 178
• "VROC upgrade key module" on page 214
4. Record the cable routing and cable connections, and then disconnect all cables from the system board.
See "Parts on the system board" on page 38.
5. Press the metal retainer to release the failing system board. Then push the failing system board toward
the retainer and carefully lift the system board out of the chassis.
Notes:
• Carefully handle the system board by its edges.
• The system board on your computer might look slightly different from the illustration.
