CellPipe 20A-USB protocols

The protocol required in the configuration of the CellPipe 20A-USB depends on the
equipment deployed by the DSL service provider. There are several possibilities:
Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over ATM (RFC 2364) – PPP provides session setup,
1.
user authentication (login), and encapsulation for upper-layer protocols, such as IP
(Internet Protocol). The use of PPP enables the modem to function as a dialup
modem. PPP is supported by either the WAN driver or the ATM driver.
Bridged/Routed Ethernet/IP over ATM (RFC 1483) – This protocol enables the
2.
modem to function as a LAN device.
RFC 1577 – this is another LAN-like protocol for IP address and ATM address
3.
mapping.
Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) over Ethernet (RFC 2516) – This protocol allows the
4.
modem to function as a LAN device and permits multiple computer users on an
Ethernet to share a common DSL connection to the Internet.

CellPipe 20A-USB device drivers

The CellPipe 20A-USB provides three types of device drivers: WAN, LAN, and ATM. All
three drivers support ATM protocol. In addition, the ATM driver is compatible with ATM
services available in recent Windows operating systems. The proper choice of driver
depends on the combination of Windows operating system and protocol.
WAN driver – this driver enables the modem to function as a dial-up modem. Calls
1.
are established via the Dial-Up Networking window. This driver supports RFC 2364,
and RFC 2516 with PVC connections and is compatible with Windows 98, Windows
98 SE, Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows xp.
Caution: CellPipe 20A-USB device drivers are not compatible with Windows NT
operating systems. Do not load on systems running Windows NT.
LAN driver – this driver enables the modem to function as a LAN or Ethernet device.
2.
Connection establishment is automatic. This driver supports RFC 1577 and
RFC 1483 with PVC connections. It is compatible with Windows 98, Windows 98 SE,
Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows xp.
3. ATM driver – this driver is compatible with ATM services provided by Windows and
supports RFC 2364. This ATM driver employs dial-up networking to create a PVC or
SVC connection for a PPP connection. This driver is compatible with
Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows xp.
