If the drive chain slack is excessive when
the rear axle is moved to the furthest limit
of adjustment, the drive chain is worn and
must be replaced.

5. Tighten the rear axle nut to:
54 N·m (5.5 kgf·m , 40 lbf·ft)
If a torque wrench is not used for this
installation, see your Honda dealer as soon
as possible to verify proper assembly.
6. Tighten the adjusting nuts lightly, then
tighten the lock nuts by holding the
adjusting nuts with a spanner.
7. Recheck drive chain slack.
8. Rear brake pedal free play is affected
when repositioning the rear wheel to
adjust drive chain slack. Check rear brake
pedal free play and adjust as necessary
(page 16.).
Lubrication:
Lubricate every 1,000 km (600 miles) or
sooner if chain appears dry.
Use any one of the following methods for
lubricating drive chain:
● SAE 80 or 90 gear oil.
● Honda recommended chain maintenance
spray.
