features when your storage unit is attached to the network. This
component provides you with real-time (online) configuration support.
Copy services
This component allows you to process copy services functions.
You can install the simulated DS Storage Manager using the GUI (graphical mode)
or using the unattended (silent) mode for the supported operating systems. Use
the unattended (silent) mode of installation to customize a response file and issue
a command from a command prompt window. The response file is a template on
the IBM System Storage Storage Manager CD. The simulated DS Storage Manager
can be accessed from any location that has network access using a Web browser. It
provides a simulated configuration option that is available with the applicable
license management code.
You can install this component on your PC which provides the ability to create
logical configurations. After creating the configuration, you can save it and then
apply it to a network-attached storage unit at a later time. This simulated
configuration tool is installed on your server and can be used for the configuration
of a DS8000 series at initial installation.
Attention: The simulated DS Storage Manager is designed to assist you in
creating an initial configuration for your system. Do not attempt to upload a
configuration file if your system has already been configured.
The IBM System Storage DS command-line interface (CLI) allows a user to create,
delete, modify, and view Copy Services functions and the logical configuration of a
storage unit. These tasks can be performed either interactively, in batch processes
(operating system shell scripts), or in DS CLI script files. A DS CLI script file is a
text file that contains one or more DS CLI commands and can be issued as a single
command.
The DS CLI provides a full-function set of commands to manage logical
configurations and Copy Services configurations on DS8000, DS6000
Enterprise Storage Server (ESS) storage units. The DS CLI can be installed on and
is supported in many different environments (for example, AIX
®
Linux , Netware, OpenVMS, Solaris, and Windows
schedulers (for example, cron), can be used to automate many DS CLI common
tasks (for example, data replication).
Notes:
1. For DS8000, you can have a maximum of 256 clients connected to a
single storage unit server at the same time. Clients include all DS
Storage Managers, DS command-line interfaces, DS open application
interfaces, and IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center for Replication
sessions. However, you must not simultaneously start more than 100
client sessions including DS CLI sessions. Starting more than 100
sessions simultaneously can result in connection problems.
2. You cannot install the DS8000 series DS CLI on a Windows 64-bit
operating system.
