circuit the spark plugs one at a time. If the engine operation is
not changed by shorting a certain spark plug, that cylinder is not
firing properly. When the spark plug in a cylinder which is firing
properly is shorted the engine will slow down and run more unevenly.
When the faulty cylinder has been determined,
reset
the spark
plug gap and if that does not eliminate the miss, the difficulty may
be due to insufficient compression.
Poor compression may be caused by scored piston, worn or
broken piston rings, or leaky cylinder head gasket, but more likely
by poorly seated valves or improperly adjusted valve tappets. If
the tappets have clearance as specified in the Adjustment Reference
section of this manual, and the foregoing suggestions have been
followed without success, the truck should as soon as possible be
taken to your Dodge dealer who has the necessary equipment and
experience to locate and correct the difficulty.
THE fUEL SYSTEM
CARBURETOR
The carburetor is scientifically designed and carefully calibrated
to the proper mixture for most economical and efficient engine per-
formance at all speeds. Above the idling engine speed, perform-
ance cannot be improved by carburetor adjustment. Therefore,
provision is made for idling adjustments only.
