3. Remove the coin-cell battery.

4. To install a new coin-cell battery, see "Installing the coin-cell battery" on page 92.
5. Dispose of the failing battery as required by local ordinances or regulations.
Installing the coin-cell battery
To install a new coin-cell battery, do the following:
1. Prepare your server. See "Preparing your server and removing the server cover" on page 41.
2. Locate the coin-cell battery in your server and remove it.
See "Server components" on page 17 and "Removing the coin-cell battery" on page 91.
3. Install the new coin-cell battery.

4. Reinstall the server cover and connect the cables. See "Completing the parts replacement" on page 101.
5. Turn on the server and all attached devices.
Note: When the server is turned on for the first time after the battery is replaced, an error message
might be displayed. This is normal after replacing the battery.
6. Use the Setup Utility program to set the date, time, and any passwords. See Configuring the server.

For service technician only: replacing the heat sink and fan assembly

Attention: This procedure must be performed only by trained service personnel of Lenovo. Do not open your server or
attempt any repair before reading and understanding "Read this first: safety information" on page iii and "Getting
familiar with important guidelines" on page 39.
