► Insert the battery (1) in the battery compartment (2) and
press it home until you hear a click.
Arrows (3) on battery (1) are still visible and battery (1) is
held securely in battery compartment (2). There is no
electrical contact between the saw and battery (1).
► Push the battery (1) into the battery compartment (2) as
far as stop.
The battery (1) engages with a second click and is flush
with the saw's housing.

Removing the battery

► Stand the saw on a level surface.
► Press the locking lever (1).
The battery (2) is unlocked and can be removed.

10 Switching the Saw On/Off

10.1 Switching On the Chain Saw

► Hold the chain saw by the control handle with your right
hand, wrapping your thumb around the control handle.
► Release chain brake.
► Hold the chain saw by the handlebar with your left hand,
wrapping your thumb around the handlebar.

► Press and hold the lockout button (1) with your thumb.
► Squeeze and hold the trigger (2) with your index finger.
The chain saw accelerates and the chain starts moving.

10.2 Switching Off the Chain Saw

► Release the trigger and lockout button.
The saw chain stops running.
► If the chain continues to run: Engage the chain brake,
remove the battery and contact a STIHL servicing dealer.
The chain saw is defective.

11 Testing the Chain Saw and Battery

11.1 Checking the Chain Sprocket

► Switch off the chain saw, engage the chain brake and
remove the battery.
► Disengage the chain brake.
► Remove the chain sprocket cover.
► Remove the bar and chain.
