4 Safety Precautions
► Read the Instruction Manual, make sure you
have understood it and keep it in a safe
place for reference.
► If allowing another person to use the chain saw, the
battery or the charger: Give them the Instruction Manual
as well.
► Make sure that the user fulfills the following
requirements:
– The user is physically, sensorially and
mentally able to operate the chain saw,
the battery and the charger and to work
with them. If the user is able to operate
the equipment but has physical, sensory
or mental restrictions, the user may only
work with the equipment under the
supervision of or after receiving
instruction from a responsible person.
– The user is an adult.
– The user has received instruction from a
STIHL servicing dealer or other expert
before operating the chain saw for the
first time and before using the charger.
– The user is not under the influence of alcohol,
medicines or drugs.
► If the user is operating a chain saw for the first time:
Practice sawing round logs on a saw horse or trestle.
► If in any doubt: Contact a STIHL servicing dealer.

Clothing and Equipment

WARNING
￭ Long hair may be pulled into the chain saw while working.
The user may be seriously injured.
► Tie back long hair and confine it so that it cannot be
pulled into the chain saw.
￭ Objects may be thrown into the air at high speed while
working. The user may be injured.
► Wear safety glasses. Suitable safety
glasses tested to standard EN 166 or
national standards and bearing the
corresponding mark are available to buy.
► STIHL recommends wearing a face mask.
► Wear a long-sleeved top.
￭ Falling objects can cause head injuries.
► If objects are likely to fall while working:
Wear a hard hat.
￭ Dust may be raised while working. The dust raised can
damage the airways and trigger allergic reactions.
► Wear a dust mask.
￭ Unsuitable clothing can snag on wood or scrub and may
become caught in the chain saw. Users not wearing
suitable clothing can be seriously injured.
► Wear close-fitting clothes.
► Take off scarves and jewelery.
