PROBABLE CAUSE
Hole burned in piston
Clogged rocker box interconnects
Excessively worn valve guide
Left or Right or Both magnetos may
not be grounded properly
Exhaust valve in the open position
Improper engine shutdown (Improper
oil scavenge)
External oil leak
Internal oil leak
Incorrect installation of piston rings
Worn or broken piston rings
burned pistons
Worn impeller oil seal
Worn valve guides
REMEDY
Replace cylinder and
piston assembly. Check for
further damage.
Check interconnects of
smoking cylinder and
remove sludge from
interconnects
Remove exhaust stack and
check for oil seepage
around exhaust valve
stem. If seepage is
present, replace cylinder.
Check continuity of "P"
lead
Normal condition
Adhere to proper engine
shutdown procedure
Repair leak
Replace engine
Refer to Engine
Manufacturer's Manual
Replace
