Notes:
1. The DS8800 supports a three-phase power configuration. The DS8800 business class supports an optional
one-phase power configuration. The DS8700 supports a one- or three-phase power (restricted) configuration.
2. The DS8800 (2-way) business class does not support SSDs.

Configuration controls

DS8000 models ship with indicator features that control the physical configuration
at the storage unit level.
These indicator features are for administrative use only. They help ensure that each
storage unit (the base model plus any expansion models) has a valid configuration.
There is no charge for these features.
DS8000 models can include the following indicators:
v Expansion model position indicators
v Standby CoD indicators
v Other indicators

Determining physical configuration features

Use these steps as a general guideline for determining and then ordering the
feature codes that you require to customize your storage unit.
1. Calculate your overall storage needs. Consider the licensed functions, such as
2. Determine the DS8000 models of which your storage unit is to be comprised.
3. Determine the management console configuration that supports the storage unit

Expansion model position indicators flag base models that have attached
expansion models. They also flag the position of each expansion model within
the storage unit. For example, a position 1 indicator flags the expansion model
as the first expansion model within the storage unit.
Each base model contains a Standby CoD indicator that indicates whether the
storage unit takes advantage of the Standby Capacity on Demand (Standby
CoD) offering.
If applicable, models also include other indicators. These include operating
system indicators, which indicate that the model is for use in a particular IBM
eServer or Linux environment.
FlashCopy and Remote Mirror and Copy functions, that you must use to
ensure continuous data availability and to implement the necessary disaster
recover recovery requirements set by your management.
Note: If you are activating features for any of the licensed functions, such as
Copy Services, all the features must have the same capacity, including
the operating environment license feature.
Consider both base and expansion models.
using the following steps:
a. Order one internal management console for each storage unit. The internal
management console feature code must be ordered for the base model
within the storage unit.
