Engine hood release
Pull lever on left underneath
dashboard. Pull safety hook
under hook. Lift engine hood.
Battery
Underneath spare tire in lug-
gage compartment. Check
each cell. Top up with distilled
water. Never disconnect bat-
tery while engine is running:
this will destroy the alternator.
Before connecting quick-char-
ger, battery must be discon-
nected.

Brake fluid reservoir
Level should be between MIN
and MAX marks.
Only use new brake fluid ac-
cording to SAE recommenda-
tion J 1703, DOT 3 or DOT 4
and conforming to Motor Ve-
hicle Safety Standard 1 1 6 .
Do not use silicone base
brake fluid (DOT 5). Even the
smallest traces may cause se-
vere corrosion in the brake sys-
tem.
Engine oil dipstick
Check oil level a few minutes
after engine has stopped. Lev-
el should be between upper
and lower marks on dipstick.
Difference between marks is
approx. 1 . 6 U.S. qt. or 1 . 5 liter.
Warning: Before checking
anything in the engine com-
partment, let the engine cool
down. T h e fan b l a d e s will ro-
tate spontaneously (even
with ignition off) until coolant
temperature drops.
Engine oil
Use only quality oil labeled
"API Service SF or SE". Details
under "Engine Oils". Filling ca-
pacity is 2 U.S. gals, or 7 . 5 liters.
Check oil level as prescribed.
Manual transmission
For manual transmission (also
for limited slip differential) use
hypoid oil SAE 75 W-90 l a b e l e d
"For service API/GL 5 or
MN-L2105B".
Total quantity approx. 1 . 2 U . S .
gals, or 4.5 liters.
Automatic transmission
ATF lubricates torque conver-
ter and transmission. Check
ATF level visually through
transparent reservoir at rear
end of transmission housing
when A T F is warm, with engine
idling, selector lever in Neutral
and car on level ground.
Should level be below MIN or
above MAX mark, do not just
add or drain ATF. Have a Por-
sche dealer correct the cause
promptly.
For differential use oils API/GL
5 (or Mil-L 2105 B), viscosity
SAE 90.
