This document, entitled Rugged Enterprise Server 200 Installation Guide, Version 1.0, provides instructions on how to install, configure, power up, boot, and perform diagnostics on Model RES-204 of the Rugged Enterprise Server 200 family of Sun Microsystems UltraSPARC-II-based servers. These instructions are intended for an experienced system administrator with a knowledge of both networking and high- speed server systems.
  • Page 20: Major Features

Rugged Enterprise Server 200 Installation Guide Major Features The major features of the RES-204 are incorporated into its ability to perform faster processing and greater I/O throughput, and withstand harsh environments through added ruggedness. The RES-204 consists of two major sections: the Server Sub- system containing the Ultra 80 Motherboard and all of its CPU Modules, DIMMs, and I/O boards, and the VME I/O Subsystem (see Figure below).
  • Page 21 RES-204 operations and functions.(see for more detail). Added Ruggedness Themis redesigned the server system to provide a suitable platform for demanding federal and aerospace markets—including expanded I/O capability, improved tem- perature handling, and extreme mechanical ruggedness—all contained in an open, modular system.
