RF engine

The RF module performs the high frequency operations of the engine. In both transmitter and receiver, the
modulator and demodulator operate at the channel frequency.
The core components of the RF module are:
• Helgo RF ASIC (application specific integrated circuit)
• Power amplifier module
The RF engine also includes:
• Voltage controlled oscillators (VCO and VCTCXO)
• RX/TX switch
• 4 RF bandpass SAW filters
The baseband section controls the RF module through the serial bus, RFBus. This passes information about
eg. frequency band and mode of operation. Helgo controls the mode of operation, and further sends control
signals to the front end module and the power amplifier module.

In addition to the RFBus there are other interface signals for the power control loop, VCTCXO control and for
the modulated waveforms.

Main processor and memory block

The main processor in this device is the stacked TikuEDGE (TESP), which includes the memory/flash
combination ASIC.

Energy management (UEM)

The UEMEK, Universal energy management, manages the power in the phone. In addition to that, UEMEK
performs all the baseband mixed signal functions.

Modes of operation

The functional behavior of the UEMEK can be divided into seven different states. Since the UEMEK controls the
regulated power distribution of the phone, each of these states will affect the general functionality of the
phone:
• No supply
• Backup
• Power off
• Reset
• Power on
• Sleep
