Optional components
There is no sound.
• Refer to General item "There is no sound." on
page 65 and check the condition of the
system.
• Connect the component properly (see pages
60 to 62) while checking:
– if the cords/cables are connected properly.
– if the cord/cable connectors are firmly
inserted all the way.
• Turn on the connected component.
• Refer to the operating instructions included
with the connected component and start
playing.
The sound from the component connected
to the DIGITAL OPTICAL IN jack is not
heard.
• Press FUNCTION repeatedly until
"OPTICAL IN" appears.
If the system still does not
operate properly after
performing the above measures,
reset the system as follows:
With the system turned on, press s (stop),
FUNCTION and CLEAR on the deck at the same
time.
"COLD RESET" appears, and the system turns
off.
The system is reset to the factory settings. All the
settings you made such as the preset stations,
clock, timer and CD disc titles are cleared and
must be set again.

Self-diagnosis Display

This system has a Self-diagnosis display function
to let you know if there is a system malfunction.
The display shows a code made up of three or five
letters and a message alternately to show you the
problem. To solve the problem refer to the
following list. If any problem persists, consult
your nearest Sony dealer.
C11/Protected
The MD is protected against erasure.
cRemove the MD and slide the tab to close the
slot (see page 26).
C12/Cannot Copy
You tried to record a CD or MD with a format
that the system does not support, such as a CD-
ROM.
cRemove the disc and turn off the system once,
then turn it on again.
C13/REC Error
Recording could not be performed properly.
cMove the system to a stable place, and start
recording over from the beginning.
The MD is dirty or scratched, or the MD does
not meet the standards.
cReplace the MD and start recording over from
the beginning.
C13/Read Error
The MD deck cannot read the disc information
properly.
cRemove the MD once, then insert it again.
