In the event of the freezer failing to operate because of a power failure, do not
worry unduly. Providing care is taken to ensure that the lid is kept closed,
frozen food will keep within the freezer for at least 24 hours. Extra protection
can be given by covering the freezer with two or three thick blankets. If a long
breakdown is anticipated, try to get the produce into another freezer or cold
store, if possible, a supply of Dry Ice to place within the cabinet.
If the breakdown is with the cabinet and not a blown fuse or power failure (do
not forget that the temperature control regulates the amount of time during
which the compressor operates, a silent compressor does not necessarily
mean a breakdown).
