Installation and Operation Manual
The jumpers located on the motherboard need to be set according to the number of disk drives installed. Refer to the
diagram below. Do not throw away any jumpers that are not used in case they are required at a later stage.

Note: After any drives are installed, replaced or removed, the Reset Disk Failure command must be run from the
Supervisor menu for the changes to be recognized by the MDAe.
This section contains important information on setting up the MDAe for correct operation. Please read the entire section
before performing any work.
CONNECTING THE SCSI CABLE
Connect a SCSI device to one of the two SCSI ports on the MDAe using the supplied SCSI cable. Using the block of dip
switches (SW1) on the rear panel, set SCSI Termination (dip switch 1) to ON, and SCSI Power (dip switch 2) to ON. Select
SCSI as the type of Bus in the Bus Select option of the Setup menu.
• Power must be disconnected from the MDAe before connecting a SCSI device or cable.
• The MDAe does not support the simultaneous use of the SCSI and 1394 ports. Only connect one type of device at
a time.
CONNECTING THE 1394 CABLE
Connect a 1394 device to one of the two 1394 ports using the supplied 1394 cable. Using the block of dip switches (SW1)
on the rear panel, set SCSI Termination (dip switch 1) to OFF, and SCSI Power (dip switch 2) to OFF. Select 1394 as the
type of Bus in the Bus Select option of the Setup menu.
• Power must be disconnected from the MDAe before connecting a 1394 device or cable.
• The MDAe does not support the simultaneous use of the SCSI and 1394 ports. Only connect one type of device at
a time.
SETTING THE DIP SWITCHES (SW1)
Set the dip switches to enable or disable the following features. Switch position UP to turn OFF (disable) a feature; DOWN
to turn ON (enable) a feature.
