The outboard motor can be seriously damaged by a col-
lision while operating or trailering. Damage could make
the outboard motor unsafe to operate.
If the outboard motor hits an object in the water, follow the
procedure below.
1. Stop the engine immediately.
2. Check the control system and all components for dam-
age. Also, check the boat for damage.
3. Whether damage is found or not, return to the nearest
harbor slowly and carefully.
4. Have a Yamaha dealer check the outboard motor be-
fore operating it again.

Running in an emergency (multiple engines)

Normally operate all outboard motors together for cruising.
If any of the engines can not be operated for in case of
emergency, be sure to keep the unused engine(s) tilted up
and operate the other engine(s) at low speed.

If any of the engines can not be operated, be sure to tilt
the unused engine(s) up. Otherwise water could enter
the exhaust pipe due to the wave, causing engine trou-
ble.
TIP:
When maneuvering at low speed, such as near a dock, it is
recommended to tilt down the unused engine(s) and oper-
ate the unused engine(s) in neutral gear if possible.

Replacing fuse

If a fuse has blown, remove the electrical cover, open the

fuse holder and remove the fuse with a fuse puller (if
equipped). Replace it with a spare one of the proper amper-
age.

Substituting an incorrect fuse or a piece of wire could
allow excessive current flow. This could cause electric
system damage and a fire hazard.
Consult your Yamaha dealer if the new fuse immediately
blows again.
