Incorrect battery cable routing could damage
the machine and cables causing sparks. Sparks
can cause the battery gasses to explode,
resulting in personal injury.
• Always Disconnect the negative (black)
battery cable before disconnecting the
positive (red) cable.
• Always Reconnect the positive (red) battery
cable before reconnecting the negative
(black) cable.
1. Disengage the PTO and set the parking brake.
2. Stop the engine, remove the key, and wait for all
moving parts to stop before leaving the operating
position.
3. Lift the black rubber cover on the negative cable.
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the
negative (-) battery terminal (Figure 49).
4. Slide the red terminal boot off the positive (red)
battery terminal. Then remove the positive (red)
battery cable (Figure 49).
5. Remove the battery hold down plate (Figure 49) and
remove the battery.

Installing the Battery

1. Place the battery onto the machine (Figure 49).
2. Secure the battery with the hold down plate, j-bolts,
and locknuts.
3. First, install the positive (red) battery cable to
positive (+) battery terminal with a nut, washer and
bolt (Figure 49). Slide the rubber cover over the post.
4. Then install the negative battery cable and ground
wire to the negative (-) battery terminal with a nut,
washer and bolt (Figure 49). Slide the rubber cover
over the post.

Checking the Battery Electrolyte Level
Service Interval: Every 400 hours
Battery electrolyte contains sulfuric acid which
is a deadly poison and causes severe burns.
• Do not drink electrolyte and avoid contact
with skin, eyes or clothing. Wear safety
glasses to shield your eyes and rubber gloves
to protect your hands.
• Fill the battery where clean water is always
available for flushing the skin.
1. Look at the side of the battery. The electrolyte must
be up to the upper line (Figure 50). Do not allow the
electrolyte to fall below the Lower line (Figure 50).
