MIDI and the MIDI functions

What is MIDI?

MIDI is the abbreviation for "Musical Instrument Digital Interface", a standard
interface used for communication between electronic musical instruments and
computers.
With MIDI it is possible to:
use PS1000 as a master controlling device to control another instrument
(sequencer, expander, keyboard, etc.).
control PS1000 using a master keyboard or another MIDI controlling device
(Guitar controller, Keyboard, Midi Piano, etc....);
connect PS1000 to an external sequencer (computer) to program Songs
and Styles;
MIDI Connection rules
An instrument which pilots another instrument is called the Master , while an
instrument that is piloted by a controlling device is called the Slave .
The MIDI OUT of the master instrument is connected to the MIDI IN of the
slave instrument.
Do not connect the same MIDI port between two instruments.
When you connect external MIDI devices, the tracks of the external devices
and those of the PS1000 must be tuned to the same MIDI channels.

The PS1000 MIDI interface

PS1000 has a standard MIDI interface consisting of a MIDI IN, MIDI OUT and
MIDI THRU port.
The MIDI IN port receives MIDI data from an external controlling device.
The MIDI OUT port transmits data to an external device (computer, sequencer).
The MIDI THRU port allows the connection of several MIDI devices in series.
Connecting to the Midi interface allows you to control 16 MIDI channels.
The Computer port
The COMPUTER port allows two-way communication between the instrument
and a computer without the need of a MIDI interface. The communication takes
place via a single serial cable. When the COMPUTER port is in use, the MIDI
ports are disabled. Connecting to the COMPUTER port allows you to control
16 MIDI channels, as for the standard MIDI interface.
Apple Macintosh connection
The Macintosh (or compatible) must communicate at the velocity of 1 MHz.
Consult the owner's manual of the sequencer software for relevant information.
Use the standard Macintosh serial cable. Connect one end of the cable to the
PS1000 and the other to the MODEM port of the Macintosh. Set the COMPU-
TER parameter under the General function to MAC.
PC IBM connection
The IBM-PC (or compatible) can communicate at the velocity of 31250 baud
(PC1) or 38400 baud (PC2) via the RS232 serial port.
Use standard serial cables DB8-DB9, DB8-DB25 to connect the PS1000 and
the PC's serial port. Set the COMPUTER parameter under the General func-
tion to PC1 or PC2 as required.
