recall another Split Preset, this time with the Upper 1 and Lower sections on
and Upper 2 off.
Note that when you change Group, the preset of the previous group will
remain active until you select a new Preset from the new Group.
How to program your own Programmable Presets and memorize the set-
tings with Store Preset is explained in Chapter 2, "Programmable Presets"
of the User Guide.
Changing the Volume balance between two sounds
If you are playing either in Layer or Split mode, you can adjust the volume of
any selected section in real time using the TEMPO/DATA buttons. The current
Volume level of each section is graphically represented by a Bar graph under
the section names.
1. Press the Function button corresponding to the section whose volume
you wish to adjust.
In this example, we press F9 to select the Upper 1 section. The name of the
section, "Upper 1", starts to flash for a few seconds.
2. Press the TEMPO/DATA [ ] button to increase the volume of the se-
lected section, or the TEMPO/DATA [ ] button to decrease it.
A change in volume is shown by an alteration of the Bar graph; the higher
the Volume, the greater the number of horizontal lines.
3. Repeat the adjustment for other sections as required.

Playing with or without the Effects

Whether you are playing Sound Presets, Prog. Presets, Styles, etc., you'll find
that in all cases, one or more effects will be applied to the sounds you are
playing. If you prefer to play without effects, you can instantly bypass the inter-
nal digital effects processors by deactivating the corresponding buttons
(REVERB and/or CHORUS).
When the corresponding display indicator is on, all the sounds of the current
Preset (ROM, Programmable or Style, etc.) will play with their programmed
effects.
When the corresponding display indicator is off, the sounds will play "dry" (with-
out effects).

Transposing the instrument up or down

The TRANSPOSE b /# panel buttons allow real time pitch adjustments (trans-
positions) in steps of one semitone (range ± 12 semitones = 1 octave). The
transposition is global, affecting the instrument as a whole.
1•18 Quick Guide
Note: The Volume of a keyboard section, or
any other track of the current Preset, can only
be changed when the section is selected (flash-
ing). If the name of the section stops flashing,
the Tempo/Data buttons change the Tempo
setting in the display.
