15 Route the SATA interface cable through the cable guide in the center fan bracket and through the
expansion card edge guide.
16 Pull the card retention hook to access the SATA connectors on the system board, and connect the
SATA interface cable to the SATA_A or SATA_B connector on the system board. See Figure 6-2.
17 Connect the IDE/SATA power cable adapter to the tape backup unit:
Connect the IDE/SATA power cable adapter to the SATA tape backup unit.

Connect the other end of the IDE/SATA power cable adapter to the TBU connector of the power

cable.
If not already connected, connect the other end of the power cable to the CD/TBU power

connector on the SAS backplane.
18 Push the tape backup unit the rest of the way into the bay until the spring latch engages.
19 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 48.
20 Replace the bezel, if removed. See "Installing the Bezel" on page 47.
21 Reconnect the system and peripherals to their electrical outlets, and turn them on.
22 Finish configuring the SATA tape backup unit according to the documentation you received with the
device.
23 Perform a tape backup and verification test with the drive as instructed in the software documentation
that came with the drive.

Removing an Optical Drive

CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your
warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1 Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from the electrical
outlet.
2 Remove the front bezel, if attached. See "Removing the Bezel" on page 46.
3 Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 48.
4 If applicable, disconnect the cables from the SAS controller card (see Figure 3-13) or SAS RAID
controller daughter card (Figure 3-14) and pull the cables out of the way of the center fans.
5 Disconnect the tape backup SCSI cable from the optional SCSI controller card and pull the cable out
of the way of the center fans. See Figure 3-15.
6 Remove the fans from the center fan bracket. See "Removing and Installing a Fan" on page 53.
7 Remove the center fan bracket. See "Removing the Center Fan Bracket" on page 82.
