Transportation

Clamp points
The SAMBA has been crash tested
to ISO 7176 Part 19. However, we
do not recommend that you trans-
port the SAMBA with a person sit-
ting in it in a vehicle. Should you
still choose to transport the SAM-
BA, please clamp the product
using a 4 Point Webbing Restraint
as per the diagram shown (Fig. 55).
Transportation in
vehicles
This wheelchair has been crash
tested in its standard configurati-
on. However, due to safety risks
Sunrise Medical do not recom-
mend the transportation of people
in their wheelchairs (Fig. 56).
Should a person need to be trans-
ported in the wheelchair on transport systems, the
following should be adhered to:
1. The wheelchair must be positioned forward
facing.
2. For tie down points on the wheelchair, please
look for the tie-down symbols on the wheelchair.
3. A head restraint must be fitted and suitably
positioned at all times during the transportation.
4. If possible, remove seat cushion to create a
lower centre of gravity.
5. The chair is crash tested, and has satisfied the
Dynamic test requirements of ISO 7176-19.
6. The wheelchair must be secured by a 4-point
Tie Down Restraint system, conforming to ISO
10542 part 2 or SAE J2249.
7. The occupant must be restrained independently
of the wheelchair by a lap and diagonal safety
belt, conforming to ISO 10542 part 3. Sunrise
Medical postural lap belts are for postural
support only, and not suitable as restraints
during transportation.
8. Any detachable accessories or components of
the wheelchair must be removed and stored
securely in the vehicle luggage compartment
during transportation.
9. The Tie Down restraints should be fitted to the
main frame of the wheelchair as indicated by the
karabiner stickers, and in the User Manual, and
not to any other part of the chair.
10. The Tie Down restraints should be attached
as close as possible at an angle of 45°, and
tightened securely in accordance with the
restraint manufacturers' instructions.
11. The wheelchair parking brakes must be firmly
applied

Maintenance & Inspection Routine
Tools required
- Battery charger
- Tyre pump
- Cleaning cloth and dilute disinfectant
- Wire brush
- Petroleum jelly
If in any doubt about performing any maintenance on
your wheelchair, contact your Sunrise Medical autho-
rized dealer.
Inspection and Maintenance Schedule
Check battery level indicator and

Check the joystick of the hand
control is not bent or damaged
Ensure all removable parts are
securely fastened
Check lapstrap for wear and
make sure the buckle is operational
Parking brake test

Check tyres and inflate
Ensure lights and indicators are
operational and clean
Ensure all cables and connectors
are sound and are tidy and out
of the way
Clean wheelchair and upholstery
Battery terminal Inspection –
Remove any corrosion and
apply Vaseline
Check upholstery, seating,
headrests, armpads and
calfpads for wear
Complete inspections, safety
check and service should be
made by a Sunrise Medical
authorised dealer
Inspection of the Hand control
With the control system switched off, check that the
joystick of your hand control is not bent or damaged
and that it returns to the centre when you push and
release it. If there is a problem do not use your
wheelchair and contact your Sunrise Medical
authorised dealer.
WARNING:
Certain fasteners on your product (Nylock nuts) are
designed for single use only. When maintaining your
product and removing these fasteners please ensure
that new fasteners are used when rebuilding.
Inspection of Lapstrap
Check the lap belt and securing components for any
sign of trays or damage and replace if necessary.
Ensure that the buckle works correctly.
