Overcasting with Zigzag Stitch

① Stitch pattern:
② Thread tension dial: 3 to 7
③ Presser foot:
This zigzag variation is very useful in garment
construction and in finishing raw edges of any sewing
project.
The black ridge and the guide wires on the overedge
foot keep the edge neat and the fabric straight.
Place your fabric so that the double guide wires come
to the edge. The machine will stitch over these wires.
The black ridge will keep loose threads in so that
the needle can stitch over them.
As you sew, be sure your fabric edge pushes up against
the black ridge.

When using an overedge foot, make sure to set the
stitch width at 4.5 or wider, otherwise the needle may
hit the wires on the foot.

other stretch fabrics that tend to pucker.
Sew along the fabric edge leaving an adequate seam
allowance.
After sewing, trim off the seam allowance closer to the
stitches.
This stitch is also excellent for darning and mending
tears.
