Step 2: Removing the Battery Pack

To replace batteries with the UPS in
Operate mode (hot-swapping)
Batteries may be replaced (hot-swapped) without powering off the UPS if both
of the following conditions are met:
The UPS is not charging the batteries (Battery Charge LEDs 6, 7, and 8
are all green, indicating that the batteries are fully charged).
NOTE: Older batteries may be fully charged but still incapable of providing adequate
backup for devices. Therefore, the battery charge LEDs can indicate the batteries are fully
charged, while the UPS diagnostics have determined that the batteries need to be
replaced.
The UPS is not supplying battery power to devices (AC Input LEDs 1
and 4 are green, indicating that the UPS is supplying utility power).
To remove the battery packs, select the appropriate instructions for your
model's configuration. The tower and rack-mountable model sections follow.
Tower Models
Follow this procedure to remove the battery pack:
1. Detach the faceplate to obtain access to the battery pack. Grip the front
panel at the recesses on the sides (approximately 1 inch below the top
corners), and pull lightly to free the upper mounting prongs from the
upper attachment slots. Allow the front panel to rotate downward to free
the lower mounting prongs from the lower attachment slots.
CAUTION: To avoid damaging the faceplate circuit board, reattach the faceplate
while performing battery maintenance.
NOTE: Moving the UPS to the edge of the work surface facilitates detaching the
faceplate. After removing the faceplate, the UPS must be moved back onto the work
surface, at least 10 inches, to accommodate the battery removal procedure.
