System Configuration Setup
Disk array (RAID) settings
If the server has RAID controllers, the disk array (RAID) must be configured prior to any
attempt to load an operating system manually or with the Server Setup Tool CD. The
hard drives will not be visible to the system until the RAID array has been set up. Once
the initial set up and initialization has been completed, the RAID configuration may be
changed using the SST "Simplified" RAID configuration utility.
NOTE: Refer to the Toshiba Server Setup Tool User's Manual or Online Help for the
installation procedure information using the Server Setup Tool.
To use the Toshiba Server Setup Tool (SST) to configure the disk array(s) installed in the
server, Toshiba SST provides two configuration options:
Simplified setup—Sets the optimum data for the disk array you choose
automatically.
Detailed setup—Allows you to customize the configuration of the disk array using the
MegaRAID Manager Utility.
Installing the RAID Utility
When using RAID controllers, make sure you install the RAID Utility for the operating
system. Install Power Console on Windows NT systems, or MegaRAID Manager on
systems running NetWare. Installation of the incorrect utility will make it impossible for
drives to be hot-swapped, or replaced, during operation of the drives if they experience a
fault.
NOTE: Before using Windows NT, be sure to install the NT Server Monitor and
SNMP of the Power Console so that all MegaRAID error messages can be seen
using the NT Event Viewer. Refer to the MegaRAID software User's Manual for
more information.
