7.6.1 Air Cleaner Element

Changing / Replacing
1. Remove the air cleaner cover.
2. Remove the air cleaner element.
3. Inspect and clean or replace the ignition plug by

Inspection
1. Remove the ignition plug cap.
Do not pull on the cable when removing the igni-
tion plug cap. Always hold the cap body.
2. Remove the ignition plug using a plug wrench.
Breakage
3. Check the plug for the following points and clean or
• Presence or absence of breakage of the insulator
• Worn electrode
• Carbon deposit
• Damage to and breakage of gasket
• Degree of burning of insulator in spark section

CAUTION
A dirty air cleaner element will reduce
engine performance and life. Clean every
50 hours of operation.
Depending on the types of engines, air
cleaner elements of dry type, semi-wet
type, and oil bath type are available. The
cleaning method for air cleaner elements
varies from type to type. Consult the fur-
nished "Engine Operation Manual" for cor-
rectly cleaning the elements.
