lution.

If
the
seawater cooling system was dra
ined,
remove
the seawater pump impe
ller
as
described in Chapter Eight
.
Lubricate the
impeller with dish washing
soap.
then
install
the
im
pell er
in the pump housing. Assemble the pwnp. but
do
not
lighten
the
co
ver retaining screws.
NOTE
Make a highly visible sign
as a
reminder
that the sea
water pump
is
inope rable.
At-
tach the
sign
to the
controls.
8. Apply lubricant
to the control cables and all linkage
pivot
points.
9. Loosen
belt
tension
for
the pump
and
alterna
tor
drive
belts
.
10. Seal o
r
cover all
engine
openings to prevent the en-
trance
of
water,
d
in
or
debris.
Make a
list of all the
sealed
locat
ions
to be sure
they
are
all
uncovered
when
returning
the
engine
to service.

Wipe
any
din or
corrosion
off the
engine and
trans-
m
ission,
the n
use a rag to
apply
oil or
a
rust inhi bitor
to all
engi ne
surfaces.

Fill
the
fue l
tan k so
less
conde nsation
will
fonn.
Add
a
good-quality antibacteria l add itive
(biocide)
and
fuei
sta
bilizer
to the fuel tank
.

Remove the battery
from the
boat .
Tape the vent ho
les
clo
sed
and
clean the battery
case with a baking soda so
lu-
tion
to rem ove any traces
of
corrosion
and
acid,
then rinse
wit
h co
ld water. Chec k th

lectrolyt e level in each cell
and top o

dist illed
water
as required.
Cover the
ter -

inals
with a light coat of
petr
oleum jelly.

re
the bat

tery in a cool, dry
place.
NOTE
Remove the
battery from storage every
30-45 days. Check
electrolyte level and

If it is not, the

gine block

coo
ling
sys
tem may be cracked by the ex-
pansion of
froz en
water.
CHAPTER FOUR
The follow
ing
procedures
are designed to
help
prevent
unn
ecessary
engine
damage du
ring
w
inter storage
.
To
ens
ure
that
the coo
ling
system is
com
plete ly
dra
ined,
it
may
be necessary to readj
ust
the pos
ition
of
the
eng
ine to
drai
n
all water.
It
is possible
that some wat
er
will remain in the
sys
tem.
Filling it with an
antifreeze
so
lution w
ill
protect
the sea-
water cooling sys
tem.
