Recording a HDCD disc

Use the following procedure to record digitally the
digital input from a CD recorded in the HDCD for-
mat.
To make this possible, it is required to select whether
the data from the HDCD disc is to be output as a
HDCD-decoded 20-bit signal or as an ordinary 16-bit
signal. (HDCD 20-bit digital output
Select the "CD" input.

Check that the CD player is in the stop mode.
If it is in play mode
Press the "7 stop" key.

Select the HDCD mode.

Press the "mode" key.

Rotate the "multi control" knob to select
"HDCD D-OUT SET ?", then press the
"enter"key.

Rotate the "multi control" knob to select
"non-HDCD" or "HDCD", then press the
"enter" key.

Start recording.
(Refer to the instruction manual of the re-
corder component connected to this unit.)
When the "non-HDCD" mode is selected:
Data in a HDCD disc is output in the same format as
an ordinary CD (16-bit signal).
When signals from HDCD format discs and ordinary
CD discs are recorded onto a single MD, the two types
of signals are recorded at the same recording level.
However, note that recording in the HDCD format (20-
bit) is not possible.

When the "HDCD" mode is selected:
This mode is to be selected to record a HDCD format
CD disc onto an MD without processing the signal. This
enables recording with a wider dynamic range and
finer tone.
However, the HDCD format signals are recorded at a
lower level than the ordinary CD signals.

Ordinary CD
Some HDCD discs may contain tracks which are
recorded in the HDCD format and those which are

not recorded in the HDCD format. (When such a
CD is played, "HDCD" is not displayed during
playback of tracks which are not recorded in the
HDCD format.)
During playback, discs are played automatically in the
CD or HDCD mode.
