When a problem occurs, do not
overlook the simple causes. For
example, starting problems could be
caused by an empty fuel tank. The
table lists some common causes of
troubles.
Do not attempt to service or replace
major items or any items that call for
special timing or adjustment
procedures (governor, valves, etc.).
Have this work done by your Kohler
Engine Service Dealer.

BAlTERY CHARGING
REDUCTION GEAR UNITS
A
WARNING:
Explosive Gas!
Batteries produce explosive hydrogen gas while
being charged. To prevent a fire or explosion, charge
batteries only in well ventilated areas. Keep sparks,
open flames, and other sources of ignition away from
the battery at all times. Keep batteries out of the
reach of children. Remove all jewe/ty when servicing
batteries.
On engines equipped with a reduction gear unit,
remove the oil plug on lower part of cover every 50
hours to check oil level. With the engine level, the
oil level of the unit should be up to the bottom of the
oil plug hole. To add oil, remove the vented plug at
the top of the unit. Use the same weight and grade
of oil as used in the engine crankcase.
Before disconnecting the negative (-) ground cab/e,
make sure all switches are OFF. If ON, a spark will
occur at the ground cab/e terminal which could
cause an explosion if hydrogen gas or gasoline
vapors are present.
