Installing the Top Cover

To install the computer's top cover, follow the steps below and refer to Figures 4-8 and 4-9.
1. Place the top cover on the computer making sure the status indicator panel is aligned with
the window on the top cover.
CAUTION: Be careful not to pinch the LCD display cables when installing the top cover.
2. Begin at the back and snap the top cover in place. Continue along the sides and snap the
front latches last (Figure 4-9).
3. With the display closed, turn the computer over and secure the one M2x3 black screw at
the front of the battery slot (Figure 4-9).
4. Turn the computer back over and open the display. Lay the display back fully. (Put a book
or small box behind the display to support it.)
5. Secure the one M2.5x6 silver screw and replace the screw cover below the function key
identifier strip (Figure 4-9).
6. Replace the function key identifier strip.
7. Secure the two M2.5x4 silver screws above the PS/2 mouse and RGB ports (Figure 4-8).
8. Replace the protective plastic bar above the ports (Figure 4-8).
9. Secure the two M2.5x6 silver screws at the back corners of the computer (Figure 4-8).
10. Replace the expansion bus cover (Figure 4-8).
11. Install the optional PCMCIA card, optional memory card and battery pack as described in
Sections 4.4, 4.3, and 4.2.
