Solution
Use dry kindling, more paper. Arrange kindling &
wood for air movement.
C heck for restricted termination cap
C heck for block age of outside air k it ( if installed) .
Check for flue blockage.
Pre-warm flue before starting fire (refer to Building
a F ire Section) .
C heck for adeq uate vent height ( refer to C himney
H eight Section) .
O pen window below the appliance towards the
wind.
U se dry, seasoned wood ( refer to Seasoned W ood
Section) .
Start with paper & k indling to establish bed of
coals ( refer to B uilding a F ire Section) .
H ave chimney inspected for creosote and cleaned
by a certified chimney sweep.
Do not use ex haust fans during start- up ( refer to
Negative P ressure Section) .
O pen window below the appliance towards the
wind.
M ix in hardwood.
Mix in less seasoned wood after fire is established
( refer to W ood F uel Section) .
Check for correct vent height; too much vertical
height creates overdrafting.
